A conventional system divides your building into zones — when a detector activates, the control panel shows which zone is affected. An addressable system gives every detector its own unique address, so the panel pinpoints the exact device that has triggered. Addressable systems are recommended for larger or more complex buildings as they allow faster identification of the fire location.
